Day 160: Foumban – Douala

We slept surprisingly well. Quiet, not too warm and without mosquitoes.

For breakfast there is an old rubber baguette with Nutella and tea, after the ladies of the house managed to make us hot water, even if the cook isn't there yet.

Then we continue towards Douala.

We realize that we have had a number of long days of driving and are a little tired. Or maybe it's just that on the 160th day of our trip, we're starting to get tired at all.

Dust, exhaust fumes, constant potholes and kamikaze drivers. A food offering that offers little variety. Prices that always have to be renegotiated. Not any approach of a service idea. Almost never a place where you can just take a lunch break.

And checks that then ask for gifts again. Yesterday we had absolutely correct officials who introduced themselves, with their name and position and checked the passport or visa and the import documents for Becky. We thought, great, but somehow German :-) And today: Can I get your camera? No? Do you have something for me? Phew.

After a good eight hours of driving around 330 km we are in Douala. First we go to the workshop. We need another oil change before we tackle the final stages. We should be there at eight tomorrow morning.

Then around the corner to our sleeping place for today, the “Procures des Missions”, which also rents rooms to non-believers like us. We could theoretically sleep in the car, but a room with intact mosquito screens, running water (hot!) and fresh towels (two!) is simply irresistible, especially since the air here is very tropical.

For dinner we just stroll around the corner to a French restaurant and have a good time there!
