Day 133: Roots Yard Logde – Waterfall Lodge

The night was peaceful and we slept well and it actually cooled down.

First we only drive around 60 kilometers to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. Together with Lio and Domi, a guide and a bucket of bananas, we go into the nearby forest to feed the Mona Monkeys. A very fun trip.

The Village (around 1,500 people) and the monkeys (around ten families with a total of around 2,100 animals) lead a beneficial coexistence. The monkeys provide the people in the village with an additional source of income and the animals regularly rob the village in the morning and are also supplied with fruit through the tours. When diseases spread, drinking holes in trees are supplemented with medicine. The monkeys are still wild and should not be underestimated, but they are nowhere near as aggressive as baboons, for example. And, as the guide says, when a monkey dies, its peers bury it under leaves and when a human dies, it also affects the monkeys' mood.

We drive a short distance further north without the Belgians and for today we are at the Waterfall Lodge near the border with Togo.

In the late afternoon, a walk of around one and a half hours to the lower of the two Wli falls. The water rushes down into the depths and the fine water mist is enough to cool us down.

Tons of bats nest on the rock wall next to the waterfall.

An all-round beautiful and eventful day.
