Day 206: Windhoek / Urban Camp

We spend the day with Veronica and Bernd.

Breakfast at La Pain Cafe / “EAT” corner Bowker Street / Mandela Av.
And as luck would have it – Vanessa and Koke fill up at the same Puma station next door. So we'll meet again, even though only briefly. How nice!

The Green Market in Klein Windhoek turns out to be a nice organic weekly market. We buy cheese, whole grain rye bread, avocado.

However, the good mood is clearly dampened by a serious accident right in front of the market area – a cyclist lies unresponsive and bleeding from the head on the street. In the event of an accident, we like to wrap people in thermal foil or blankets; here people with umbrellas stand by and provide shade. We can't help and the ambulance is on the way. We hope the best for the injured person.

New for us is “The Grove Mall” just to the north. Difficult just to park, we are higher than 2.40m. We need a second coffee first. Unfortunately the outdoor shop closes at 1 p.m., we're too late for that. The sports outfitter with an off-road corner offers nothing for us.

But there is still a real bookstore and we buy Kemi Fayode's second crime novel.

At some point enough is enough; we end the shopping trip with a big piece of cake.

Dinner today is in the Urban Camp restaurant – good thing we reserved a table. The restaurant is often visited by locals and today the camp is also packed.

We are joined by an Afghan exile who Bernd and Veronica met. Unfortunately, the dinner ends in a political discussion with a heated disagreement, so that at some point we both leave.

The last beer around the campfire is a forgiving feeling for the four of us – all in all a nice day!
