Day 51: Terjid – Wildcamp towards Tichit

Getting up at the first twilight, taking a shower and having breakfast at seven – that's how we actually manage to get going at 8:30 today. We have a long drive ahead of us to Tidjikjia and if possible further.

Desert. Sand. Heat. Hot wind. Little variety in the landscape. Lunch break tightly pressed against the car's shade. The asphalt is blown away by sand. Dune formation on the road.

In Tidjikjia we fill up (one of four gas stations is open and has diesel), the souk is unfortunately almost completely closed (Friday afternoon), we let off air for the sandy road and find the right way to Tichit. It takes us a while to figure out where we want to go, because we have three options: The route that Wolle's navigation system also finds on Google and that the locals show. A route based on waypoints from Cyril's book and a track that a Spaniard had provided without having driven it yet. Wolle is skeptical, because what Open Street Map doesn't know about isn't usually there...

Since, according to various statements, it takes 6 hours to get to Tichit, we decide to take the official route and want to think about what to do next tomorrow. Off we go into the sand.

It's going to be a long day of driving. In the evening we find a great place again – Ian is good finding wildcamps. And what's nice is that he usually makes a fire, which we often cook on.

However, we are exhausted and debate for a long time whether there is any chance of reaching the so-called Elefant Rock or Fingers Rock – both of which are more than a hundred kilometers behind Tichit. Do we really want to drive 600 km in the sand and spend three to four days for it and would there even be enough fuel? The tendency in the evening: let it be and do a bit of the journey using Cyril's track, so that we would drive a kind of circular route.

We all sleep a little restlessly because our interests are somewhat complex. The nights in the desert are actually incredibly beautiful, quiet and starry. Just a little hot :-)

And oh yes, a scorpion actually runs around us in the evening, so one should be careful.
