Day 76: Wild camp at Salaa waterfall – Labé, Hotel Tata

It was lousy cold that night. Not only is the river cooling, but we also notice the altitude of around 1,000m. Socks, hoodies, everything is a must.

We don't want to go very far today, so we have breakfast in peace and focus on our favorite topic, visas. Just puts us in a bad mood.

At lunchtime we drive to Labé and stand at the Hotel Tata, which is really nice.

In the evening there is a surprise: the big bus with around 25 passengers also arrives here. Luckily we have already ordered our pizza. Also funny: There are a few Italians here. The confusion of languages is having an impact. Even a simple bon soir doesn't appeal to Wolle anymore. Everything in Italian.

For us and everyone who wants to read something like this, here is the status of the visas.

1. Nigeria

  • Cover letter to the consul why we want a visa is ready.
  • The letter of invitation and passport copy of the inviter were sent via a friend. We still need that.
  • We are currently finishing the Travel Plan (From the beginning to the end of the trip!).
  • Copy of passport is provided. We carry passport photos with us.
  • We obtained proof of assets in Germany.
  • Photocopy of the Guinea visa – we can only do this in Conakry because we only get the pasted visa there. The online visa with a stamp must first suffice.
  • Once you have all of this, you can start the process online and pay (2x $88).
  • On site you pay 110$ per person and – because we don't want to wait a week in Conakry – express surcharge 110$ per person. That's a mere $440. We probably have to pay it into a bank on site and take the receipt back to the embassy.
  • Then we can hopefully pick up the visa the next day, although actually only Mon/Wed/Fri are available.

2. Ivory Coast

  • We have already paid 2x58 euros online – there is a receipt but no confirmation email. That was actually supposed to come.
  • It wasn't possible to select a date online, so we had to rely on luck.
We have to bring it with us:
    • We have the visa form ready.
    • Proof of payment is available.
    • Travel plan instead of hotel booking and return flight ticket – we have it already because of Nigeria.
    • Passport copy and 2 photos each. Default.
    • Copy of yellow fever vaccination – we still have to do it.
    • Here too, photocopy of the Guinea visa – we can only do this in Conakry, see above.
    • In addition, a copy of the vehicle documents, insurance (Carte Brune / we still have to make a copy) and a photo of the front of the car!!!

3. Liberia

Doesn't seem so collecting, we need:

  • Passport copy and 2 photos each. Default.
  • Copy of yellow fever vaccination
  • Copy of travel plan instead of hotel booking and return flight ticket
  • 2x100$

4. Ghana

Let's spare some time in Conakry and do it at the border, even though it's a bit expensive there and costs us $150 twice.

What we really need gets clear, when you could still apply online and pick it up in Conakry, the following was necessary:

  • Passport copy and 1 photo each
  • Copy of travel plan instead of hotel booking and return flight ticket
  • Copy of yellow fever vaccination
  • Copy of Covid vaccination (as of March 23, we still have to do it)
  • Visa Request Letter – should be omitted at the border.
