Day 123: Mole National Park

7:00 a.m. We go on safari with the two French couples. For a shared 50 euros (car plus driver plus guide) it's an inexpensive pleasure and absolutely great.

In contrast to the parks in South Africa and Namibia, you can get out here and there accompanied by the guide. In our case, we'd rather get down because we're sitting up on the roof.

So we approach elephants and crocodiles on foot. We also see warthogs, bush bucks (the antelopes with white stripes); Vultures, different colored Kingfishers, a breeding colony of Bee Eaters, various Heron, Eagles and some other birds whose names we have already forgotten. Maybe we need another great bird book!

Around noon we have to fend off a whole horde of baboons. 20 to 30 roam around the campsite looking for food and keep approaching the cars and us. You really have to put everything away and get up every now and then, throw a stone, defend your territory. Finally, it gets too annoying and we go to the pool. Fold up the roof tent first and quickly put the solar away after we see that one of the baboons is nibbling on the cable.

When we come back the baboons are gone, but both our table and Justine and Simon's are marked with pee.

Pool and terrace are simply wonderful. Elephants can be seen in the valley, bush bucks come by again today, and all kinds of birds rush around. We order two burgers for tonight so that we don't have to wait so long (tip from the guide at the entrance gate to the park).

What more do you want? A wonderful day.
