Day 193: Namibe – Mirador da Leba

Becky starts. This is a good start to the day.

Today we go to the Serra da Leba. The pass road is spectacular and easy to drive on a Sunday with just a few trucks.

The second highlight of the day is the Tundavala Gap, around 50 km away. There the walls of the Serra da Leba fall steeply about 1,000 m into the valley. You stand at a viewing point on the high plateau at an altitude of around 2,200 m and look into the depths, slightly dizzy...

On the way back towards Lubango there is a late lunch break in the “Chalet”, a Swiss restaurant. The cheese sandwiches are ok, the coffee is great, the yoghurt is sensational – we didn't know we missed good yoghurt so much :-)

Back to Mirador da Leba. In the late afternoon the light on the pass road is significantly better. We can stand on the restaurant premises for the night. And since we had a hot shower this morning, the lack of infrastructure here isn't a problem for one night.

We meet the French woman Steffi and her American partner, who have been climbing the steep faces for a few days and finding new hikes. Wow.
