Day 113: Man

Neither of us is feeling well today. Off to the hospital. Wolle receives a second injection against malaria. Brigitte is tested and is malaria positive and typhoid positive. So full program: injection against malaria, antibiotic against typhoid.

There is a difference between typhus (bacteria transmitted by critters) and typhoid (bacteria transmitted by water and food). We didn't know until now. And the vaccination only protects around 60% or against very severe cases.

Also for Brigitte, because she is so weak, an infusion with electrolytes and vitamins. Oh yes, and the apparently obligatory worm medication.

We have to get the antibiotic in the city and take a taxi – we're just not feeling well. We get everything else, including paracetamol for fever, from the hospital pharmacy.

We languish in the afternoon, Wolle has bouts of fever, Brigitte just has a headache and fatigue. Neither of us has an appetite, but we have to eat something because of the medication.

In the evening, Wolle's fever rises to 40.3. Phew. We look for the doctor on site, get a large cooling pad (our little one surrendered immediately), the advice to take more paracetamol and we move into a room with air conditioning. Cooling down is the most important thing.
