Day 09: Arles – Camping Le Brasilia (at the coast nearby Perpignan)
Not far to the west is Aigues Mortes, one of the largest preserved medieval towns with a completely intact city wall. Impressive. We spend half a day in the town, which always offers new views of the fortress towers and the streets. From Saturday there is a week of “Fête” here: bulls are driven through the town and anyone who has the courage tries to wrest a ribbon from them. Plus music, a classic fair, food – but then we would hardly have been able to get a parking. The hype is supposed to last a week.
Then get on the highway and do a little driving.
We find a campsite near Perpignan that is open for exactly one more night. Suits us and we now know what a 5-star campsite can be: A bit of a club atmosphere, large pitches, water and electricity at every site, many new and clean sanitary facilities, comfortable cabins, shopping area, pool, sports facilities, and and and. And many, many Swiss :-)
We hop into the warm Mediterranean sea, enjoy the evening and sleep without a blanket.
Small addition: Yesterday we had to bite the bullet and fill up the tank in France – 230 euros. Ouch.
And another little addition: When we swim we see really big fish in the waves – it's a bit like being in an aquarium.
