Day 22: Camping Cabopino – Camping SurEuropa (nearby La Linea)

Our next stop is not far away, just before Algeciras.

La Línea del la Conceptión is a place that feels like it goes on forever, without a real center. According to Wikipedia, small boats carrying drugs from Morocco land here at night. But the location is strategically good for us to get to our workshop appointment at Toyota tomorrow.

We spontaneously decide to use the time to visit Gibraltar. We take a taxi to the border because we are now leaving Europe. In times before Brexit, Spain and Great Britain created a joint airport here that crosses the headland, so after border control you walk across the airfield – very strange.

Then you reach the old bastion of Gibraltar and immerse yourself in the city center and the total commercialism. Amusing, but nothing more.

So we climb the narrow streets uphill towards the nature park until we come to the official entrance – climbing the summit or visiting the monkey rocks is not worth 18 pounds per person and we already have a good view of the harbor and the coast here. So we went back down – we definitely deserved a portion of fish & chips.

Back in Spain there isn't a taxi in sight and the weather is still better than expected, so we walk back to the campsite. The almost five kilometers are going to be long. But we'll make it back before the weather gets really bad.

There is an extreme weather warning with heavy rain and hurricane force winds – the ultimate test for our roof tent. Let's hope things calm down as the night progresses, as predicted.
