Day 71: Campment de Lion – Wassadu
The night was surprisingly fresh, like the last one – the river seemed to cool down. There's just a quick stand-up breakfast of Nutella bread and coffee.
And while Wolle is looking for crocodiles and Brigitte is keeping an eye on the green monkeys to the right of the car, one of the monkeys, coming from the left, silently steals one of the Nutella breads. A good meter away from Brigitte. Other monkeys thoroughly inspect the car – an entertaining breakfast.
At 8:00 we're back on the slopes. The landscape and the partly very overgrown slopes are impressive.
What animals did we see over the two days? Crocodiles and an iguana. A hippo (eyes and nostrils). Warthogs, antelopes, gazelles and a dik-dik. Baboons, vervet monkeys and pata monkeys. Eagles (in the sky), Blue Starlings (which are simply called Metallique here), beautiful, colorful Bee Eaters. Lots of guinea fowl and other birds, including very large, deep black ones. Squirrels and two mongooses.
Conclusion: We had a lot of fun, the price-performance ratio is a bit overpriced, one night in the park is enough and the car got some scratches. Among other things, the dry bamboo ripped open the protective tarpaulin of our awning.
Around midday we go back to the national road, we drop Papa off at the gate and drive back to Wassadu.
A few maintenance measures and then we start planning for Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire etc. because we absolutely need to get more visas in place in a timely manner.
