Day 79: Dalaba – Wild camp towards Kindia
Yesterday we met Almut and Simon, two German motorcyclists, and made our access point available so that they could go online. Part two of the online work follows for breakfast and we had a wonderful chat with them!
And today we also have part two of the potholes – at least up to Mamou, some of them are really annoying. The road zigzags at 30-40 km/h, the oncoming traffic is the same way and in between the motorbikes are taking over.
In the city we loot the ATMs again – we still have get out a lot of money until we have the necessary 3.8 million Guinean francs for the Nigeria visa. Maybe we'll sacrifice our dollars after all?
We can't find the turnoff to the Chutes de Konkouré waterfalls further along the route and finding a place to sleep is also rather difficult today. It is densely populated, with farmland to the left and right of the road or really dense mixed forest.
It's hilly and mountainous and actually totally photogenic – if it weren't so hazy.
By the way, it is also the day of the car wrecks. We didn't see as many as today during the entire trip. Some of them are really badly damaged and they're not a pretty sight.
Eventually we find a place to camp. First we have a visit from an older motorcycle rider – ah, Germans, one night here is ok. Then a couple on a motorbike – a quick honk and passing by. And then the shepherd with his herd of cows – ah, Germans, whether we travel and yes, standing here is ok. It's really nice and relaxed.
After we were in the restaurant yesterday and – surprise! – had chicken, today we have vegetables with long-lasting gnocchi that we bought in Dakar. Yesterday's chicken was more of a so-called escape chicken – a pretty tiny chicken because it always has to run away from something on the street :-)
