Day 39: Camping Sahara Line in Boujdour – Hotel Fyndy in Dakhla
The morning begins with jogging (Woll) and back/yoga exercises (Brigitte). Gradually we might settle into a long-term travel routine...
Today Abdul's tires are still being pumped up with our super easy comfort compressor – top priority! It was already used yesterday on an Italian motorhome. The puncture in the tire was clearly audible after the pressure was restored. And then our jack was needed because the one they brought from the workshop didn't fit. Wolle is the camping operator’s hero.
In addition, all sorts of information and contact details are exchanged (seven people in changing conversation configurations) and presto it's 11:30 until we finally get going.
Except for a few spectacular views, the landscape remains monotonous and it drags on a bit. Only shortly before Dakhla does the view change completely – dozens of kit surfers cavort in a lagoon-like bay. Nice picture.
After thoroughly checking the camping options again (one no longer exists, two seem pretty bad) we decide to take a hotel in Dakhla – for the first time on our trip. We stay in the “Fyndy” (a tip from the Facebook group “Overlanding West Africa”), the other two couples in even cheaper accommodation and Abdul, he writes to us, just stays at the Shell gas station 30 km from Dakhla. Food, coffee, clean toilets – everything is there, he says. The kite surfers' luxury accommodation on the northern headland of Dakhla is not an alternative for any of us.
We leave things at the hotel to be washed; it's amazing how quickly everything gets dusty, sticky and sweaty.
And then we actually have our first evening stay in a city. Casablanca is playing against Pretoria in the African League, the cafes are full of men in front of the screens. We eat delicious food at “Snack Thagazout”, the photos on the web entries are a good guide.
