Day 144: Abomey – Cotonou
Last night we had rain for the third time in over four months. Once in Gola National Park (rainforest), once in Monrovia (end of the world), and now in Abomey. Let's hope that the rainy season doesn't creep in too early. Then we would have problems in Nigeria and Cameroon.
But today we're going to Cotonou.
On the way there is a monastery to which the navigation system sends us on the shortest route along a kind of path. Twice it doesn't seem to go any further, but then it works. Unfortunately we arrive at prayer and rest times and can only look around a little – but at least it's a nice place for a lunch snack.
We skip a monkey sanctuary that's supposed to be on the way – it's just mercilessly hot and humid and we're exhausted.
The accommodation in Cotonou is comfortable, but somehow also a bit scary: Western standards, well equipped, some of the stuff is still in original packaging, with a washing machine and actually too big for us. And we are probably the very first and only users.
