Day 78: Labé - Dalaba
It was probably not a party the first night but a disco. Loud music again and it's a little annoying, but overall we can't complain about not getting enough sleep. So what the heck.
Filling up with water doesn't work at this point because there's too little pressure for our filters. And so what we didn't want will happen – we will buy plastic bottles and hope that we can find larger containers somewhere.
We continue to Dalaba. We reach a height of a good 1,200m and would probably have great views if it weren't so hazy and dusty.
And it takes a lot longer than expected – the road is basically covered in deep potholes.
Unfortunately, the plan for a longer hike to the “Pont du Dieu” doesn’t work. Instead, we drive a good part of the route and only walk the last 4km. 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back. It's good exercise.
The cascades themselves are not spectacular, but the natural stone bridge over the falls is nice.
Finding a place to spend the night requires three attempts today. You can’t park a “camper” at the Hotel Safitel. The Hotel Tangama looks very deserted and somehow uninviting. This is how it will be at the Hôtel du Fouta – a bit old but also a bit sophisticated, there is a camping meadow and it has a truly fantastic view. The shower by the pool is a little too "public", but that's more the other guests' issue than ours. Btw: It's strictly Muslim here, there are quite a few women dressed in black and fully veiled.
And by the way, Miriam Makeba probably spent some of her exile in Dalaba in the 1970s.
