Day 68: Vélingara

We want to travel slower. So we'll stay here another day.

The plan was actually to walk into the village (2 km) to do some shopping early, when it wasn't too hot. And as is often the case, “something” comes in between. But the “in between” is actually the nice thing about the trip, because it is usually the exchange with other travelers. So today with Elli and Stefan.

We waste the day with some laundry, with hotel research in Conakry, with emails about the indicator problem, with checking our account, with…

We cooked ourselves yesterday because we didn't feel like eating chicken again. Chicken is a staple here. Dinner is preferably with chicken, occasionally meat or fish. This reminds us of the saying of a South African who said that he was now a vegetarian and that he only ate chicken.

Yesterday at the border there was a food hierarchy. The important ones went to the next village. The others sat around an 80 cm large bowl and ate together. One of the villagers was allowed to eat the rest (the cook's husband?) as well as the driver of a taxi (while his passengers stewed in the sun). Finally, the child was allowed to help the cook and suck the chicken bones.

We're cooking ourselves today too, vegetables and rice :-)
