Day 164: Noviciat Carmes – Djoum

A little melancholy creeps in. We leave our “traveling family” behind. Ian and Catherine will take their time and Domi and Lio only arrived in Cameroon yesterday after crossing the border on a completely crazy route. We haven't heard from Simon and Almut since Ghana. The two of them are travelling slow anyway.

We, on the other hand, will now travel further quickly. We want to reach Angola at the end of March and still have a little time left for that. The plan is to return to Germany at the end of April. Becky is staying in Namibia and we have to plan another one or two weeks to find accommodation for her.

So from now on things will continue steadily for us. At the moment the road is very comfortable to drive.

Cameroon's landscape is extremely beautiful. Hilly to mountainous and largely forested. However, we see little old trees, but a lot of trucks with really huge tree trunks.

Outside the cities, however, Cameroon seems to be rather poor.

Here in the south we see many Christian churches, the north was clearly Muslim. Btw: Ramadan starts tomorrow, so it's good that we're now traveling in non-Muslim regions.

On the street today we meet Jan, a German cyclist who we met in the Ivory Coast embassy in Conakry – how long ago that was! Before Christmas!

He wants to make it to Djoum today like us, maybe we'll see each other again this evening.

In Djoum the first hotel (Jeanette) does not work for us, the entrance is too low. So we book ourselves into Tristar, which is also quite run down, but there is running water and we can sleep in the car.

Michael, a German motorcyclist, also arrives in the early evening.
