Day 182: Eland Game Reserve / Oribi Gorge – Suntsani Campsite / Queenstown

Two years ago, we left Hamburg for our African adventure. So far, we've traveled for 16 months and visited 28 countries, although we've only crossed four of them. What a lot we've experienced. Amazing, exciting, beautiful, educational, and a few stupid things. But we still have almost five weeks ahead of us!

Now we're driving through the Oribi Gorge again, whose beauty we've missed a bit in the last two days.

And today we want to take a secondary road (R61+R396) via Harding to Tortoni Farm. It's raining, and we're early, so we're looking for another destination.

The first part of the route is fantastic, with its view of the mountains of Lesotho. The second part of the route is less scenic, with rain and fog, or rather, clouds at higher elevations.

And so, as we continue our journey, we decide to continue west and skip the detour to the Wild Coast due to the general weather. No matter how beautiful the beaches may be, they're no fun in the constant rain.

North of Khowa (Elliot) lies Inthaba Lodge – but they've canceled on us. A wedding party seems to have left the place pretty trashed, and, more importantly, the water tanks are empty. So, for today, we'll be heading to Suntsani Camp near Komani (Queenstown). And we'll be driving over 500 km in total.

By the way: The different names for places here are sometimes quite confusing. While we've been in the heartland of the Zulu for the past few days, we're now among the Xhosa.

The camp is nothing special, but what it really scores for today is a kind of pavilion, a roof over our heads for cooking and sitting.
