Day 94: Villa Katwe (Masaka)
Wolle got fever last night, over 39 degrees Celsius during the night. So we did what our doctor in Côte d'Ivoire recommended: If Europeans have a fever in the tropics, please go to the doctor. The hospital is less than 500 meters away and quite well organized. Admission (blood pressure, pulse, sugar, weight). Doctor's consultation. Malaria test and CBC (comprehensive blood count). After a quarter of an hour, the result: No malaria, but a bacterial infection. So antibiotics and paracetamol for the fever.
This cost us 15,000 TSH (3.55 euros) for the clinic and 48,000 (11.50 euros) for the medication.
It's funny to hear from Bernd and Veronika (whom we met in Angola) that Bernd had provided technical equipment to the hospital in Masaka in 2017 as part of a development aid project.
And again, we think that things often work out. How fortunate that we weren't staying at a campsite outside the city, but at Villa Katwe in town, and that the clinic is within walking distance.
Wolle can rest or sleep in bed for the rest of the day. And Brigitte can finish reading a book on the couch. By the way: "In the other direction now" (in German: "In die andere Richtung jetzt") by Navid Kermani is worth reading if you're interested in East Africa.
