Day 34: Muchenje River Lodge – Katima Mulilo – Marrow Campsite (nearby Kongola)
After the wheel alignment and adjustment, Becky at least drives well again in normal operation and looks straight again. The car still pulls to the right in 4x4 mode.
There's hardly anyone in the Zambesi Car workshop, as it's a long weekend with "Cassinga Day" (commemorating a massacre by South Africans against Swapo on Angolan territory).
We're not going to get anywhere here; we can't get the car back on the lift to check the wheel. And we're not really confident anymore. We have to think about how to proceed, and we also have at least two days to cover.
So we drive about 100 km back to Kongola and find a really nice bush camp on the Kwando River. Owned by the village (and thus his family), Kennedy manages the current five campsites, two of which already have their own bathrooms with donkey stoves for hot water. He's currently expanding the third site. As in the villages, every spot is fenced in and offers complete privacy.
Only the hippo family, which actually lives right here in the river, is a bit scarce.
We cook, build a fire, listen to the clicking frogs, and admire the stars. It's fantastic.
