Day 120: Shose Chalets, Farm & Campsite (Moshi) – Irente View Cliff Lodge & Campsite

The website is still working this morning – phew – and hopefully we have a temporary solution for the next few weeks.

It rained during the night, it's overcast, the mountain is gone :-( So we decide to keep going.

Beyond Moshi, the road leads to the border with Kenya; but we're driving south. To our east are the foothills of the Kilimanjaro mountain range (at least that's what the map says), to our west the Maasai steppe. What magnificent scenery! And since the road is good and not busy, we enjoy the day's driving, even though it turns out to be almost six hours for 264 kilometers.

Today's destination is the Usambara Mountains. Let's see if we can find out if the violet is actually native here :-)

The Germans once wanted to make Lushoto their capital because of its pleasant climate. And perhaps also because the landscape is a bit reminiscent of the mountains we're familiar with. In any case, our parking spot near the Irente Viewpoint offers a sensational view.

We're meeting up with Joseph, the local, well-booked guide, for a hike tomorrow. And we suspect the night will be cold again. Brrr.
