Day 109: Nyangwe Nziza Lodge – Iliza Beach Kibuye am Lake Kivu

We realize we're at an altitude of 2,400 m. The night was chilly, and the "climb" to the room with a bathroom gets our heart rate racing :-)

The road through Nyangwe National Park is wonderful. Not as pristine as the drive through Bwindi National Park, but again with great views of the jungle. The park is now run by African Parks. We briefly consider taking the canopy walk at the visitors center, but decide against it because of the cost. 40 USD pp for the 160 m long path – worth the effort. But on top of that, 100 USD pp for the day park fee – that's way too expensive.

We see duikers (small, dark antelopes) six times, but don't manage to capture a single one on camera. They're so shy and fast.

And we see mountain monkeys (mammals) a few times. We've never seen them before. About as small as a vervet monkey and adorable. It's always fun to watch them balance in the trees with their long tails.

Near Kibuye on Lake Kivu, we head for Iliza Beach. The site has a maximum of two/three pitches, one of which is occupied by two women from South Africa and the Netherlands. So, we're lucky, we get a nice spot, more or less right on the lake (15 USD per person per night). There's a toilet and shower, and we can hook up to electricity. And we cook again...

Around 10:00 PM, there's a heavy thunderstorm, but by then we're already in bed :-)
