Day 160: Phalaborwa Safari Park: Tour in Krueger National Park

First trip to Kruger National Park. We can't get enough...

On back roads towards Letaba. There's not much going on. Few animals, few tourists. We trundle through the landscape and spot an elephant, zebras, impalas, a young martial eagle, hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and steenboks.

In Letaba, where we'll be stopping tomorrow, there's a Magnum ice cream instead of coffee.

And back we go.

And then Wolle spots a herd of elephants. Slam on the brakes, reverse gear, yes, they're still there, turn around, drive parallel. And finally, 15 elephants cross the road. Once again, we notice that this is quite stressful for the animals. A small car drives very close, and the animals have to find a gap. A young animal that simply isn't moving fast enough is pulled by its tail. A car that wants to drive past too fast triggers threatening gestures. And just like that, the magic is over.

Tonight we're going out to dinner and are excited to see what the next few days will bring.
