Day 05: Windhoek
The plan is to get everything we need for a two-week trip starting Sunday at the supermarket. And to spend the rest of the day doing a few minor repairs.
Nothing's happening. The error message pops up again. U-turn to Toyota. Identical result in the diagnostic system. Drive a good 200 km for the DPF regeneration to start – which at least works, and Becky drives perfectly.
We're racking our brains. Water could play a role in the diagnosed short circuit to the battery. We think we're on the right track. But then we turn the car off for a test, and the message reappears about 2 km later. Alas, alas. So back to Toyota. We order a new sensor, which should arrive on Wednesday. It remains to be seen how far we can drive with the car despite the error. Bricato says it's no problem; the dashboards of some cars here look like a Christmas tree. Offroad Motorhome says it's better not to, as the DPF regeneration might then fail and the filter might eventually die.
It's not running smoothly, you could say...
It's good that we can extend our stay at the Urban Camp – there are worse places to kill time.
Oh yes, we're already measuring our car for possible shipping.
Michael, an Israeli motorcyclist who worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo for some time, joins our evening ride with Manuela and Gerhard.
