Day 149: Nyamoro Dairy Farm – La Rochelle (Penhalonga)
The night was cold at an altitude of 1,800 m! Getting up has to wait until the sun gradually breaks through the trees.
Debbie supplies us with fresh greens from the vegetable garden, potatoes, and a few tips on where to shop along the way. And so, later, nuts, jam, tomatoes, and trout fillets find their way into the shopping basket.
The mountains in and around Nyanga National Park are wonderful, the vegetation diverse, and so we leisurely chug along to our destination for today.
And then: gold diggers. There seems to have been a fresh discovery near Penhalonga, as many new wooden huts are being built, new claims are being occupied, and new tarpaulins are being put up.
La Rochelle is the name of our overnight stop today. It was established in the 1950s by Britons of French descent. A manor house and a huge park with walking paths, magnificent trees from all over the world, a botanical garden, and an orchid house.
But unfortunately, we drove a metal cramp into our tire. It's losing air and needs to be patched. Whether the new tires are made of stronger material, the tools have become brittle, or whatever – what used to be easy is now difficult and time-consuming. Hopefully, it will hold!
