Day 165: Pretoriuskop Main Camp – Skukuza Rest Camp

What a bummer. The battery has died again, Becky won't start. For the fourth time in all these months. The whole thing is very strange. We didn't have the Ecoflow hooked up, so there's no other outlet.

But we get a jump start, and off we go. And again, there are a few special sightings:

We see vultures with their wings spread, protecting their young from the sun.

We spot an owl for the first time!

Elephants seem to appreciate baboons romping around the area as little as we humans do, and they gain respect and distance with loud trumpeting. But even the elephants eventually just move away because the baboons are too annoying – we know how it is...

We spot two rhinos pretty nearby from each other, very close to a very busy picnic site. It's a bit sad to see the animals without their horns, but it's still necessary. And even the sighting maps don't note where they were seen; It really seems like everything is necessary to protect the animals from poaching (and extinction).

In the almost dry riverbed of the Byamati, two groups of three lions each, five lionesses, and one young male, are resting.

And: It's pretty hot today. Almost 40 degrees Celsius, no breeze, hardly any cooling in the evenings. Phew. A bit exhausting.

Oh yes, we're also booking our return flight today. It's got to be done sometimes...
