Day 134: Chelinda Campsite – Mzuzu (Macondo Camp)
Before we head back, we take a short detour to Dam 2 and Dam 3, as well as the Chose Viewpoint and the small Lake Kaulime. Three striped jackals cross our path, along with zebras, reedbuck, and the elegant roan antelope. On the way back, we see some duikers in the rocks. And as the weather gets warmer, some (endemic) francolins, which have a very unique plumage here, also appear.
Such amazing views of the mountains and valleys. Wow.
After a tiring four hours, we reach the main road (better than expected!) and, after a good seven hours of driving, we arrive in Mzuzu.
Shoprite is the first stop to check out the shopping. The selection is a bit "socialist," meaning a lot of the same stuff. But we'll still be able to pick up a few things here.
When we get back, Julia and Sepp have parked their truck right in front of us :-)) Great to meet up here. They have two South Americans with them, Aida from Mexico and Juan from Argentina.
We all have to exchange dollars for kwacha; on the black market, the rate is more than double (1:4,400 instead of 1:1,750). And so the big money counting begins with a dealer. Phew.
In the evening, pizza and red wine – the Macondo Camp belongs to an Italian, and we're in a good place here for now.
By the way: The camping did cost us 25 USD per person per person. The walk was 20 USD per person. The parking fee was 93,000 MWK.
