Day 169: Ndlovu Camp (Eswantini) – Nyalazi Campground (South Africa)
We left Eswatini as quickly as we came in, and the South Africans are completely uncomplicated. No one was bothered by the handwritten correction of our visa expiration date.
We were already in Eswatini (then still Swaziland) in 2016/2017 and know a little about the corrupt king who lives in luxury and the poor economic conditions of the population. It seems like not much has changed. But the stretch of South Africa south between Kruger National Park and Eswatini is definitely not a wealthy area either.
All in all, a lot of manual labor in the fields, and once again a lot of garbage lying around. Small, simple dwellings, lots of people with nothing to do, and many children who apparently don't go to school. The contrast to "white" South Africa is stark.
And of course, a Superspar in a "black" town has a different product range than a Superspar in a "white" town.
Today's destination is a campsite near the gate of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park (Nyalazi). The nearly 300 km are quickly covered on very good tarmac roads. There are seven pitches here, and the site is fully booked for today. It was a good idea, that Wolle made a reservation. It's humid after a day with temperatures up to 38 degrees and fierce winds. We cook in peace and – as so often these days – are in bed early.
A quick side note: As retirees, we pay 150 ZAR pppn per week for camping instead of 200, which is about €2.50 less :-)
