Day 82: Lake Shore Lodge and Campsite

The Lakeshore Lodge and Campsite is a nice place. However, at $40 per night, it's not cheap. But what's cheap in southeastern Africa?

We're standing under a huge mango tree and are allowed to use the bathroom of a bungalow. It's quiet here, warmer than the last few nights, and we slept well. So we'll definitely stay a second night.

We explore the grounds, photograph the blossoms of the frangipani trees, have a dog for company again, can observe how much the lake's water level has risen in the last five years (five bungalows have already been lost), and hike a few meters to the ruins of a Benedictine mission church.

Becky gets a hose-handwash for 10,000 shillings (€3.33).

And we take a dip in Lake Tanganyika! And yes, we checked with Jenna, our host, beforehand to make sure there were no crocodiles or schistosomiasis larvae. Today we'll treat ourselves to a small meal and maybe even a glass of wine and celebrate our 27th anniversary; there wasn't enough time for that yesterday.
