Day 125: Barry's Beach Lodge and Campsite – Tan Swiss Lodge (Mikumi)

Moving on.

It takes us three hours to drive the approximately 90 km of coastal road, crossing Saadani National Park from Mkwaja to Mkata to T2. Sometimes we're on the left side of the construction site, sometimes on the right... Incidentally, we don't have to pay any tolls to drive through the park from east to west – that wasn't really clear beforehand.

In Morogoro, we reach T1, the main road, with its correspondingly large number of trucks. Slow trucks. Broken-down trucks. Traffic checkpoints. Countless speed bumps.

It takes us a really long time, but we manage to cover almost 400 km.

The beautiful scenery (first savannah, then mountains) makes up for it. And as we drive through Mikumi National Park, we get to see some more animals that evening: zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, warthogs, impalas, baboons...

The Tan Swiss Lodge in Mikumi is almost a culture shock – crowds :-)

A school class, a rolling hotel, and a few other campers. So, for around 80 people, there are two showers and three toilets per gender, plus the pool and restaurant facilities. This leads to queues. Well, we're not used to that anymore.
