Day 130: Floja Foundation Campsite
What a pleasant night. The lake water lapped steadily against the shore; it was neither too cold nor too warm. We saw the lights of the boats in the night. And we had a beautiful sunrise.
It's supposed to have been very windy the last few days, so it seems all the fishermen went out last night and are landing again this morning.
René told us a bit about the Foundation's projects. Primarily a preschool, where there's time for play and thus for developing completely different cognitive skills than those learned on the mother's back. A difference in early childhood education that we've thought about many times.
There is apparently also a high rate of children with sickle cell anemia here in Malawi. Apparently, moringa powder can significantly improve the quality of life of those affected. A current project is seeking to substantiate this clinically and scientifically. Exciting.
And the regular volunteers each contribute their own knowledge and skills, so that a wide variety of things can be learned in workshops and similar activities.
What else are we doing today? Researching and planning the next few weeks. We're having lasagna from the kitchen here tonight, so it's a really relaxing day :-)
