Day 106: Ruhengeri – Kigali

The drive from Ruhengeri (Musanze) to Kigali is pleasant. We travel slowly because the speed limit is often only 60 km/h, with no overtaking allowed, and we see many radar cameras (the same ones as in Germany!). But this allows us to enjoy the scenery and often wouldn't want to drive any faster on the streets packed with people and bicycles.

Kigali is situated on hills; many roads are paved, making it less dusty. But the streets are busy and quite hectic.

We stop by Toyota and immediately get our, or rather Becky's, service done (engine oil and filter change, diesel filter, differential oil, general check). These workshop appointments are always a bit drowsy because you just sit around for a few hours, but what the heck – at least it's all done in one go.

At the Hotel Tech, we meet Ian and Catherine. It's crazy, we last saw Ian in February 2024 in Benin, and Cath recently in London. And now: Kigali! "Meeting in Kigali again" could be a movie title :-)

We're in the parking lot and can use the restaurant's restrooms and the sauna showers – all a bit strange, but fine for two nights in one city. We've already done that in Pointe Noire (Congo Brazzaville) and Lobito (Angola), albeit with a slightly nicer atmosphere on the beach.
