Day 166: Skukuza Rest Camp – Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp
Becky starts in the morning; Very good! And for us, today is our last time "on pad" in Kruger National Park.
The drive from Skukuza to Crocodile Bridge, like the previous days, offers antelopes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and a few cute birds. Oh yes, hippos are also in there again.
The day begins, however, with a pack of hyenas with cubs. Right by the road. We had heard them early in the morning, too.
And Wolle is taunting an owl!
We see three lions, one of which is lying there as if he's sick from all the food he's just eaten :-) Another shaggy-maned lion is resting in a hide in the distance.
The highlight of the day, however, is the encounter with a rhino. With plenty of time and all alone. Simply wonderful.
Down here in the south, it's a little quieter again, both in terms of the density of animals and the number of tourist cars.
In addition to all the small and spectacular animal sightings, the wonderful and diverse landscape in the Kruger is also part of the overall experience. As is, for example, the incredibly intense scent of flowering acacia trees.
The Crocodile Bridge Restcamp is significantly smaller than the main camps, but it's also almost completely booked. The majority of travelers at the campsites come from South Africa. International guests tend to stay in the bungalows, as we did in 2016/2017.
We had a fantastic six days here! And all this with the still valid wild card from last year, which meant we didn't have to pay any park fees.
