Day 15: Windhoek – Sesriem Campsite
Up early. Pack up. To the workshop for a check and coordination of further to-dos. And off we go. Finally!
Becky is doing what she was built for again – driving around :-)
And it's magical. Again and again.
We're driving to Sossusvlei (Sesriem Campsite) today, since we can't change our booking there.
On the way, however, a detour to the Capricorn Campsite, which we had requested for the previous night, is a good idea. We get a partial refund and immediately have a nice spot for a lunch break. It would have been nice to stay here for a night, too.
We were in Sossusvlei five years ago, and basically nothing has changed. The NWR Campsite (Namibia Wildlife Resorts) is a bit run down, and the staff isn't the fastest. We see that there are now many more lodges and campsites in the area – we might book something else next time.
But: If you want to hit the trail to the "Sunrise Dune" early in the morning, the campsite in the park still has the advantage of being able to leave before the official gate opens.
We won't do that tomorrow morning. It was a truly wonderful experience back then, but it's not something we'd want to repeat. We're getting lazy...
The scenery is simply beautiful, and we're enjoying the evening of our first day of driving with polenta, vegetables, and a beer (Windhouk non-alcoholic is quite tasty).
By the way: The temperature today is reaching 35 degrees, and the wind is mild to warm and sandy.
