Day 14: Windhoek

The night was restless. It's such a shame we can't get going today; we'd planned such a nice trip.

But Wolle immediately throws himself under the car with determination and tightens the screws on the skid plates. As absurd as it seems, it's worth a try. And lo and behold: After an initial test drive back and forth and steering, the creaking is no longer audible. Could this really be such a stupid mistake that scares us so much?

Another drive confirms: the creaking is gone. Phew.

We're meeting at CarTech for Monday at 9:00 a.m. for a second look. And we've decided to have the rubber parts on the steering rod replaced, the front tires replaced (they've now done 52,500 km), and possibly the front shock absorbers replaced. This can be prepared while we wait for the windshield.

And hopefully, that's it!

Our test drive takes us to Heinitzburg (apparently closed on Sundays) and Joe's Brauhaus (for coffee and cake) – both Windhoek institutions we hadn't visited before. We tinker around a bit, Wolle is polishing the car, we cook, and we light a small fire for the first time since we arrived. Nice!
