Day 72: Glen Reneen Campsite – Wanderung – Ausflug nach Clarens

Early in the morning, the baboons wander across the site and try to open the door handles of the driver's cabin on both sides. It's a good thing we always lock them. They have more luck with another car... And they also break into a tent, although we don't know whether it was open somewhere, because the beasts can't really open zippers.

We hike a short section of the Ribook Trail in good weather. After we have climbed the first height and see that it goes down and then up again, we turn around. Equipped with only a packet of biscuits and three pears, this is perhaps too demanding for today.

We continue in smaller sections: to the Brandwag Buttress, up on one of the large protruding rocks; to the Boskloof, which offers a nice view of the valley but is otherwise quite overgrown; to the Echo Ravine, a narrow gorge; below the Mushroom Rocks, which is quite spectacular and a bit scary.

With the first drops of rain, we are back at the campsite after about four hours and 7.6 km.

And so we drive to Clarens. The place has probably been recommended to us almost a dozen times. Typical white Africa. At the weekend, the "Joburg Bunch" descends there. Lots of knick-knack shops, lots of shops with special foods (jams, oils, marinades, nuts, etc.), lots of cafes, breweries, wine shops.

We have a delicious late lunch (filled pancakes), a good cappuccino, Brigitte buys herself new wool socks and we buy two bottles of wine. And the whole thing takes place in about 500 m around a central square.

If the weather is reasonably good tomorrow, we will stay another day at the Glen Reneen Campsite in the national park and then drive up to Joburg.
