Day 80: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp – Lower Sabie Rest Camp
Today is cat day, or rather lion day.
We see lions three times on the way from Pretoriuskop to Lower Sabie.
A group of three – mixed or young males or all three females, we can't tell. They are lying lazily in the shade by a small body of water until an elephant scares them away.
A short time later, a couple. The young lion is really magnificent to look at. And we are more or less alone with the animals for quite a while.
Finally, there is a big traffic jam just before the gate to Lower Sabie: Another pair of lions can be seen right on the road. Wonderful, even if we only catch a quick glimpse because of the many other cars.
Other than that, we didn't see much today apart from elephants, antelopes and a few giraffes. Four ground bills and an African Harrier Hawk are among the highlights.
By the way: It will be 38 degrees during the day today and we have great sunshine and good light.
And one more addendum to yesterday: We forgot the rhino in the list! How could we!
And we forgot to mention something else: We saw (based on a tip) a small dead antelope in a tree. The leopard had obviously dragged it up and we were impressed by how straight the tree trunk was and how high up the torn area was. We would never have looked up there.
The camp is nicely located with a restaurant terrace right by the river, which still has some water here (or already?).
And we can have a delicious dinner. Something different from camping cuisine for a change :-)
