Day 46: Livingstone (Zambia) – The Farmhouse Matopos (Zimbabwe)

The night was quiet, only a few mosquitoes were killed – and there are quite a lot of them here.

As we have a long day of driving ahead of us today (around 500 km), we get going quickly.

Leaving Zambia: We weren't expecting a long line shortly after 8:00 on Sunday. But after half an hour we're finished with the exit and are now driving on the bridge over the Zambezi, which we already know from our walk at the Vic Falls. Nice.

Entering Zimbabwe: It's actually easy – we already have a visa and insurance and have already paid the carbon tax and only have to pay the road tax (10 USD) again. It could be quick, but somehow we're missing the gate pass, a form that has to be stamped at every station. So we go back to immigration and then to the cash desk and back to the customs counter.

And then we are not finished yet, because another stamp from customs is missing, which is a blessing but does not take the car apart. Nevertheless, because he does not ask about the CdP and we do not know what he actually needs from us, it takes a while until everything is sorted out.

In the end, about an hour – we have had worse.

We speed towards Bulawayo and the Matobo National Park.

We only drive through Bulawayo, we have had just enough of cities. But it makes a nice impression, wide streets, avenue trees, "colonial" buildings and spacious, green residential areas.

Our destination for today, the Farmhouse Matopos campsite, is still outside of the Matobo Park. Great. The hosts are nice (Kerry and Andre), the view from our campsite (#8) over the mountainous landscape is magical. Another evening where we think how lucky we are.
