Day 65: Khotso Horse Trail and Overland Campsite
A lazy day. A bit of bookkeeping, a bit of washing and mending, a short walk, delicious trout for lunch in the Old Hatchery around the corner, then a coffee in the Balam River Deck (both places have good mobile net connectivity).
Shortly before 5 p.m. our "sunset ride" starts with Johannes as our guide and Jacky as our companion. We get Bruce and Chayenne as horses, two good-natured animals that carry us wonderfully on the first ride of our lives.
A great experience. We are on the road for a good 2 hours including a short break and are lucky with the weather (dry, a bit of sun, hardly any wind). On the climb of around 200 meters, the animals start to pant and sweat, but we both feel very safe and relaxed in the saddles. It's nice to see how the horses find their way between the furrows and stones. And we have an enchanting view of the mountain panorama. A wonderful trip.
When we get back it is dark and there are two more cars on the campsite – almost everyone meets up at our pitch neighbour Simon's (with his son Jack) place for a sociable braai.
