Day 94: Graskop – Rocky Drift Private Reserve

It started to rain at night and the view from the tent shows that everything is soaking wet. We are in the clouds. So we have breakfast under the awning and pack up Leo's wet tent.

The 2017 travel guide says that the former gold mining village of Pilgrim's Rest is pure tourist rip-off. So we'll skip it.

We drive over the Long Tom Pass towards Sabie with stops at two waterfalls. The Mac-Mac Fall (65 m) can only be seen from above, the Bridal Veil Fall can be reached via a nice walk through the forest. There are many more waterfalls that could be visited here, but for us this is enough.

We have lunch in Lydenburg and then continue via Dullstroom through lovely landscapes with lots of forestry and lots of lodges for fishing. Our destination is the Rocky Drift Private Reserve.

We cross the Sabie and the Crocodile – both rivers that are still very narrow here and later form wide riverbeds in the Kruger.

At the campsite we learn that there is no electricity, apparently a power outage within a radius of tens of kilometers. The employees at the power station are on an extended Black Friday vacation. Brigitte can hardly believe it.

We still get something for dinner: Hans is of German descent, sausages and potato salad are quite tasty. Leo has salad. With that, non-alcoholic beer or red wine – a nice end to the day.
