Day 06: Windhoek – Zelda Guest Farm

We are getting used to getting up earlier, even though it is still really cold at 7:00 in the morning. But we get going at around 9:00. Cymot has a new cordless screwdriver and then we leave the city. It's time finally.

The route is asphalted, as is the entire Trans-Kalahari Highway from Swakopmund to Maputo. It is a little hilly at first but becomes flatter towards the east. And it is dry. We have heard that the South African countries are suffering from a drought of the century, and in Namibia wild animals are being culled from protected areas to feed the poorer people. It doesn't feel good. Since we have not been here at this time of year, we cannot really judge it. But the landscape is dominated by yellow, brown and gray tones. However, a few bushes and trees are in bloom, especially in the dry season.

Fenced farmland to the left and right of the road. We see some baboons, warthogs, vultures and marabous, a little deer and cattle.

A short stop in Gobabis for a sandwich. But we can't exchange Botswana Pula on this side of the border.

Our destination today is the Zelda Guest Farm about 25 km from the border. We arrive early enough to have a leisurely one-hour walk around the farm, which is very pleasant. It's nice here.
