Day 30: Hwange NP – Chizarira NP

We have somehow come to terms with the main camp, even if it is too expensive and "run down". But what isn't run down here? We ask ourselves into whose pockets the enormous amounts of dollars that foreign tourists spend here actually end up (parking fees, lodges and campsites, drinks, fuel).

The people are extremely friendly and polite and ask what they can do for you. Maybe that's why it makes us particularly sad to see the poverty in a once prosperous country.

We drive towards the Chizarira Range, our destination today, through attractive landscapes, despite the dryness and haze. We see many great old baobabs and huge nut trees that we already know from West Africa. Green, shady oases.

In the Chizarira NP we also pay 30 dollars pppn for camping, 4 dollars each for the parking fee (reduced because we are staying overnight) and 10 dollars for the vehicle. In return, we have a nice view of the Mucheni Gorge and a toilet block with a shower. We are kindly allowed to share the space with two Germans who live in South Africa for a while and are now on their way to Tanzania for a medical project. The space allocated to us would have had nothing at all.
