Day 58: Sehlabathebe (Old Lodge)

We wake up just before 6:00, it quickly gets light and warmer.

It's crazy to have breakfast here in the middle of the mountains of Lesotho. In absolute peace and completely undisturbed, even if a rider trots past at some point.

We go on a short hike to the signposted places: rock pools, old shelters and animal pens, stone arches, small lakes. Water is dripping or flowing everywhere. However, it is still too early in the year for the endemic water lily. Now and then we see a horse and a few birds. And we see a bearded vulture, which has the special feature of reddish-brown tail feathers here.

After three hours we are back at the car for a lunch break.

Unfortunately it is getting cloudy, but we should note that our new solar panel is working great.

We watch a school class on an excursion – they are really walking faster than us. And in the late afternoon we watch a tourist group on horseback. There seems to be a bit more going on at the weekend. But we had also heard that the season is only just beginning due to the late winter.

We also set off for another hour to see some spectacular rock formations.

Meanwhile the clouds are thickening and sinking, the mountains are gradually disappearing and by 5 p.m. there is hardly anything left to see. We are standing in the middle of nowhere. And we are excited to see how the weather will develop.
