Day 36: Lusaka

It's cool and we slept well. There's nothing specific planned and we have a leisurely breakfast.

We visit Carl in the hostel and consult with Veronica about his broken collarbone (thanks, Vero!). Now he has to weigh up the options. Not easy...

Meanwhile, we pay a visit to Mudpackers – we had also asked there about shock absorbers and want to take a look at the shop. Since we don't need anything special and the "exhibition" is fairly straightforward, we leave quickly.

Lunch in the cafe opposite is nice, however, and then we head back to the hostel.

The good thing about Lusaka is that you can sit in many places, basically like in a European city, drink coffee and talk. And so we chat until it's time to set off for Pioneer Camp in the afternoon.

Whether it's our imagination or reality, we find that Becky rides more smoothly on gravel with the new shock absorber.

We pre-order pizza for tonight, pick up our clean, fragrant laundry (wonderful!), and enjoy seeing impalas and a couple of owls at the campsite.

On the way back from the restaurant we stop at Max and Doris campsite – our neighbors – and chat until late at 11pm. The two of them traveled from South Africa to Germany in a VW bus in 1976 on routes that are impossible today, and so we have a lively exchange of experiences.
