Tag 26: Victoria Falls

We are at Victoria Falls. A childhood dream. The walk along 16 viewpoints takes about two hours. The falls have not much water at the moment, partly because of the season and partly because of the prevailing drought. Nevertheless, it was a great experience for us, because the Devils Cataract, the Main Falls and the Horseshoe Falls still have water. Further east there are only trickles. We can admire the entire formation, see bathers on the Zambian bank in the otherwise inaccessible pools at the edge, get really wet in some areas and enjoy it. If the falls have a lot of water, you will hardly be able to see any details, the cloud of spray will then fog everything up.

We cannot judge the climate here at all. In Namibia, Botswana and here there is quite a drought. In Botswana several locals told us that heat (up to 45 degrees) and wind are signs of the start of the rainy season. That would be a little earlier than usual. Carl tells us that the power plants at the Karibe Dam are being shut down due to a lack of water, which means that Zimbabwe's largest electricity producer is out of action. On Facebook, however, we see pictures from South Africa with exceptional snowfall. That's about 1,500 km south of here. And we actually want to be there in about a month.

Today we'll spend the afternoon and evening at the campsite, maybe take a little walk through the town, see if there are new sunglasses for Wolle and if we can get some decent bread, do some other errands ...
