Day 93: Blyde River Canyon – Graskop

Today we drive the classic Panorama Route (R532) to Graskop.

The Three Rondavels Lookout offers another beautiful view of the mountain formation. (3 people 270 Rand)

The view of the Lowveld is a bit hazy, but still nice. (free of charge)

Bourkes Luck Potholes are simply great, even if not too much water flows through the narrow gorges and washouts. (3 people 450 Rand)

We skip the Berlin Falls (around 45 m high); instead we turn off to the Lisbon Falls (94 m). You are not actually allowed to hike on the meadow anymore, but should make do with the two viewing platforms. We ignore this, remembering our visit eight years ago, and this way we get a slightly better view. You could also hike down into the depths with a guide, maybe next time. (3 people 75 Rand)

The Wonder View offers another great view of the plain. (free of charge)

God’s Window itself is almost disappointing. Just another view, which by the way disappeared into the clouds eight years ago. Surprisingly beautiful, on the other hand, is the small hiking trail through the “Rainforest” (1 km), at the end of which there is actually a nicer view of the wide country and the change from “jungle” to agriculture and forestry. (3 people 150 Rand, 20 Rand pensioner bonus each :-))

In Graskop we stop at Harrie’s Pancakes: deliciously sweet and salty and gluten-free for Leo.

We still need to get a few washers and the fuse for the fridge and then we’re off to the Panorama Rest Camp at the Graskop Gorge for the night.
