Day 73: Glen Reneen Campsite – Johannesburg

You must live in a country that suffers from droughts to develop such a positive relationship with rain: Brigitte “Oh, what a pitty, rain is coming, we can’t do the hike”. South African: “Oh lovely. We need rain”.

So we are driving to Johannesburg today after 17 days in Lesotho and the Drakensberg (The Berg). Lots of freezing, rain all the time, often poor visibility. Nevertheless: wonderful days, breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, nice people, great campsites, beautiful hikes. We are happy with it.

In Bethlehem we drink a coffee or tea and eat a little something (we keep ending up at Mugg & Bean); we buy new reading glasses for Wolle and a new small broom (the old one is “worn out”); later Becky gets a foam wash and we drive 326 km.

We end this Saturday at “Airport en route Travel Lodge and Campsite”. Marion and David immediately make you feel welcome in the small, cozy place on the outskirts of Johannesburg in the Benoni district.
