Day 24: Kasane
After two days of research by Wolle and valuable tips from Andreas Luthardt (thanks again!) we have a solution for the solar panel: create an account with Takealot, the African equivalent of Amazon. It's a good thing that we booked a SIM with data and airtime for Botswana, so we have phone and SMS. We did it the first time! The foldable solar panel from Ecoflow is available in Johannesburg (important: with European connectors). From there it is sent to a freight forwarder (who is also there for us on Saturday outside of his official office hours) and then it will be shipped to Lusaka, where we can collect it about a week later at the freight forwarder's office (Icypeed). Now it's time to keep our fingers crossed!
Today we are meeting Veronica and Bernd from Namibia with their family for dinner. We book the Pepe Nero – and are excited about the pizza.
Tomorrow we want to go to the Vic Falls on the Zimbabwe side and meet Carl there, whom we have known since Liberia and last saw in Windhoek at the end of April.
And since we spent a little more time not only here but also in Moremi and Chobe, didn't want to go to the Vic Falls now and hadn't planned on going to Lusaka at all, we now have to start planning again.
At the end of the day we have a rough idea for the next two weeks and are looking at how we can then get back to our original plan. There's no point in thinking any further if we don't know when we'll actually have the solar panel in our hands.
We'll probably postpone two parks in Zambia (Liuwa and Kafue) until next year. It's better in terms of scheduling and route and besides, it's so dry everywhere at the moment that May 2025 might even be better for a visit.
We spend a very pleasant and entertaining evening with Bernd, Veronica and their family Jana, Peter and Barbara. The pizzas arrive slowly, but are delicious and the beer is cold.
