Day 48: Telegraph Grove
The night is cold and rainy, Wolle is restless because of his mother, who is still in intensive care. After breakfast Wolle has a walk to the town to be able to have a phone call with a doctor. We consider whether we cancel our journey, but for the cancellation we would need a certificate from the hospital to get back the money from our travel insurance. It turns out that at least this hospital will not issue such certificates. And since we can not really do anything at the moment, and she's still on a diagnostic therapy not on a life-sustaining one right now, we decide to continue our journey.
Insertion: At night we heard sounds that could actually come from the whales. Very insistent and difficult to describe.
After our lunch (again eggs with bacon!) we take a coffee in town and off we go with about 40 other people on the excursion boat. There's a good visibility and can move easily on the boat. The trip is epic. We see different groups/families of orcas, some other whales and dolphins that have fun to have a race with the ship. Really magical! We see seals and sea lions and eagles. And last but not least we enjoy the impressive sight of a Humback Whale, which repeatedly hits the water with the caudal fin to drive away two annoying sea lions. The whale says goodbye to us with a leap out of the water.
At the end of the day we enjoy some salmon in the restaurant at the pier.
