Day 08: Meziadin Junction - Kinaskan Lake

In the morning we get offered some coffee from the neighbor trailer. Then we start to Stewart, passing a first glacier (Bear Glacier) soon.

In Stewart, you can cross the border into Alaska, to Hyder, a small town in Alaska, but only accessible via this border from Canada. A passport control will only take place on the way back from Hyder to Canada. Trevor did not expect border crossings and only has his driving license. But along with a copy of his passport in the cloud, which he made for his last year's trip, he too is allowed to return to Canada. Of course, he asks that before he crosses the border, and so we can pass and ride up to the Salmon Glacier.

In the valley, a bear observation station is set up where the bears can easily serve themselves salmon in the salmon season, which hasn't started yet. And therefore, we do not see any bears, just some bear shit from last night. In other places, I have seen black bears, five in total already, and even was able to take pictures from some already. That's difficult, because these critters disappear very fast in the thicket.

A gravel road is leading up to Salmon Glacier - finally gravel, really great.

We ride then - again on the Canadian side - still a decent piece to the north.

In the evening we find a wonderful campsite right on Kinaskan Lake, where we take a bath - icy cold!

Everything has gone really well so far. It is a pity that Trevor has to return tomorrow or at least Wednesday afternoon.

The only thing that is difficult is communication with home. The campgrounds have no WiFi and the time shift is 9 hours, which makes it not easy to be wired when Germany isn't asleep.
